    Ecological Consultant | Manchester | 4-day working week (2 days in the office) |£26,000 – £35,000 per annum

    The Civils & Infrastructure Team at Ford & Stanley are currently working in partnership with an award-winning Ecological Consultancy, to find a Ecological Consultant to join their ever-growing Ecology Consultancy Services business unit.

    This position would be well-suited to an experienced Ecologist or Senior Ecologist who would like to work across a diverse array of sectors, and operate with a high level of autonomy, whilst maintaining a great work/life balance, courtesy of a business-wide 4-day working week!

    Key Responsibilities

    • Undertaking UK Habitat Classification Surveys and protected species surveys.
    • Building tenders and creating fee quotations.
    • Producing complex technical reports (PEA reports, BNG reports, protected species reports, Habitat Management Plans, BREEAM reports, HRAs and EcIAs).
    • Managing medium to large-sized projects with the ability to track financial progress.
    • Logistical and legislative problem-solving.

    Interview Criteria

    • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in ecological consultancy or less if the required skills can be demonstrated from other employment.
    • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies.
    • Be a holder of a Protected Species Licence or working towards one.
    • Proven experience in conducting and leading a variety of ecological surveys.

  • Production & Quality Engineer – Overhaul Facility

    Production & Quality Engineer | Manchester | £65,000 per annum

    The Opportunity:

    An exciting opportunity has arisen with one of the UK’s leading rolling stock businesses to join their team as a Production & Quality Engineer. With their overhaul engineering function transitioning inhouse, our client has commissioned the build of a state of the art overhaul facility which will be the first of its kind for their business.

    The role is highly autonomous with them responsible for supporting the overhaul of various rolling stock assets while ensuring safety, efficiency and quality targets are met. In the early project phase, they will define facility layouts, specify equipment and develop production procedures. Once the initial setup is complete, the focus shifts to continuous improvement and operational optimisation.

    Key responsibilities:

    The Production & Quality Engineer is responsible for managing production activities to meet targets while ensuring compliance with regulations. They’ll be critically reviewing equipment productivity during commissioning, conducting demonstrations to identify process improvements and continuously refine production programs for efficiency and quality. The role includes assessing depot design and layout, forecasting material and service needs and providing technical support for production and maintenance operations.

    Candidate Essentials:

    • Production & Quality Engineering Experience – Preferably in the railway industry, working with heavy equipment like lathes, wheelset presses, and welding.
    • Strong Planning & Organizational Skills – Proven ability to manage tasks efficiently.
    • Technical Procedure Expertise – Skilled in analysing and writing documentation.
    • Problem-Solving Methodologies – Familiarity with tools like 5W2H and 5 Whys.
    • Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma – Experience in process optimization is highly desirable.
    • Technical Proficiency – PC literate, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and software.

    The Opportunity:

    The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for implementing key facility infrastructure whilst ensuring operational efficiency through effective maintenance. During the early stages of the project, the Maintenance Engineer will define the facilities systems/ equipment’s layout, specifications for equipment and systems and also compile maintenance procedures. After this initial phase, these responsibilities shift to continuous improvement.

    Key responsibilities:

    Situation

    A leading transport provider in the North is looking to enhance its in-house fire-safety capabilities by recruiting an experienced Fire Engineering Consultant to join their team, primarily based in the Manchester office as a Senior Fire Engineer. This key role will focus on assessing the current state of fire safety across the organisation’s portfolio of 467 station buildings, offices, and outbuildings, then developing and managing an overarching fire safety strategy.
