    Mechanical Engineer | Derby | Rail Industry

    Are you a Mechanical Engineer with a passion for rolling stock engineering?

    We have an exciting opportunity for you to join a leading player in the rail industry. In this role, you’ll be providing essential engineering support for both passenger and freight rolling stock projects. You’ll enjoy a mix of 65% design and 35% engineering responsibilities, using both your theoretical and practical engineering expertise.     Key responsibilities:

    • Deliver CAD design and structural engineering services for passenger and freight rolling stock projects.
    • Support internal and external customers, including rolling stock owners, operators, and maintainers.
    • Tackle technical challenges in modifications and refurbishments of rolling stock.
    • Use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and perform hand calculations to validate designs.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to create effective engineering solutions.
    • Develop professional skills and work towards chartership with mentorship and career progression opportunities.

    Candidate Essentials:

    • Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
    • Experience in rolling stock engineering (preferably passenger, but freight experience is a plus).
    • Proven structural engineering experience, including hand calculations and FEA.
    • Strong design and engineering problem-solving skills.

    Desirable:

    • Experience working on both passenger and freight rolling stock.
    • Knowledge of structural modifications and refurbishments.

  • Service Engineer

    Senior Services Engineer | Hybrid | Up to £60,000

    The Opportunity:

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Author technical documentation, including site-specific risk assessments, method statements, and test procedures, while estimating effort and timescales.
    • Collaborate with the Project Team to meet quality, financial, and delivery targets for projects.
    • Perform hands-on tasks within the depot, including manufacturing, assembly, testing, and kitting.
    • Deliver turnkey projects at client premises, ensuring the successful implementation of engineering solutions.

    Working Practices:

    • Hybrid work schedule: 9-5, with 3 days in the Derby office and 2 days working from home while providing technical support.
    • The role will necessitate the need to work away from home within non-core hours on an ad hoc and longer-term basis as dictated by project requirements.

    Salary/Package

    • £40,000 – £60,000
    • Discretionary bonus each year (up to 10%)
    • 25 days holiday + BH
    • Company car, fuel card, expenses and accommodation provided for stay aways

    Candidate Essentials

    • Experience working within Rolling Stock (Essential)
    • Happy to be hands-on, working out on site in the depot (Essential)
    • Happy to travel UK wide and stay away for projects, working non-core shift times (Essential)
    • Previous installation experience – Understands installation/modification techniques – electrical and mechanical (Essential)
    • Able to technically author engineering documentation (Essential)

    Qualifications

    • Degree or higher education in Engineering (Essential)
