Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting for an experienced Welding Engineer to oversee the expansion of the welding team for one of the leading rail vehicle maintenance companies.

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Welding Engineer who will provide support on a Welding Team that has recently doubled in size, increase the quality of the company’s products while ensuring a faster turnaround. This varied role will provide exposure to experienced mentors, room for progression and exciting challenges, as no two days will be the same. As a major maintainer of trains, this business will provide the candidates with a chance to write welding and repair procedures, assist welders on the shop floor and offer input on future projects.


Wolverton, Milton Keynes

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Assist project manager in the preparation of cost and timescale plans for any reengineering projects.
  • Oversee and support the inspection of PNC level 1 qualified inspectors.
  • Oversee welding undertaken and advise technical solutions and best practice.
  • Control and maintain welder training and approval records.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have more than a basic knowledge of welding and the ability to both read and write technical drawings. With currently 20+ welders on site and the aspirations of growing this team further, they will be required to oversee and ensure work is being carried out correctly and safely and raise any safety concerns to management. They will also be required to support the overseeing of the shop floor to ensure welders are continuously working up to company standards.


  • Safety conscious
  • Welding Experience in a repair/modifications environment.
  • Able to read technical drawings, understand welding symbols.
  • Experience writing welding procedures, and desirably, other repair procedures.


  • Ability to write weld procedures
  • Rail industry background
  • Apprentice background
  • NDT Qualification
