Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Structural Engineer for one of leaders in rail vehicle maintenance.
We are currently recruiting for a Structural Engineer who will provide support to enable the expansion of the Welding Team, increase the safety of the company’s set up while ensuring a faster turnaround. This varied role will provide exposure to experienced mentors, room for progression and exciting challenges, as no two days will be the same. As a major maintainer of trains, this business will provide the candidates with a chance liaise with clients and key stakeholders, ensure structural designs and welding elements are up to standard and offer input on future projects.
Wolverton, Milton Keynes
Role and Responsibilities:
- Ensure design changes and repairs comply with appropriate Railway Groups standards.
- Assist other departments within Gemini Rail Group regards to structural or design issues.
- Ensure the risk associated with the mechanical and structural changes and repairs to rolling stock are understood, documented and managed.
The successful candidate could be near the start of their career or already experienced in structural engineering. They must be safety conscious and have the ability to raise any safety concerns to management in order to be dealt with immediately. They will preferably be from a rail background, however may be from other transferable industries having worked with steel or aluminium with an understanding of corrosion repair.
- Experience working with steel and aluminium fabrication
- Ability to read welding symbols/drawings
- Experience with structural hand calculations. (FEA experience desirable)
- Meticulous with documentation, experience writing repair procedures and structural justifications.
- University Educated in a relevant discipline (desirable).
- Background in the rail industry
- Ability to read and write welding and structural documentation
