The Opportunity

Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting for a technically advanced Senior Systems Engineer who wants to be involved in the full project lifecycle of safety critical on-board train protection products for some of the biggest names within Rail. 

This position would be well-suited to someone who wants to be the subject matter expert when it comes to system engineering.

Burton upon Trent (Hybrid Working Available) 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Design and implementation of project specific systems that meet customers specifications, by utilising current business products and technologies in conjunction with third party products, as necessary to meet customer requirements.  Including all required internal and customer deliverable documentation. 
  • Management of all technical aspects of customer projects, leading internal activities and acting as the customers’ technical contact for system engineering 
  • Visiting customer sites to provide support during lab testing, first train commissioning, reliability growth and problem investigations 
  • Participating in product development activities, ensuring the product development pipeline is aligned to customer and market requirements. 
  • Participate in tendering activities, ensuring the solutions offered match customer requirements whilst maximising the businesses win ratio and profitability.

The Candidate 

If you are an experienced Systems Engineer who enjoys working with complex products or systems, this could be the ideal role for you. This position will offer a variety of technical challenges and requires someone who is keen to participate in product development ensuring customers’ requirements are always met. 

This is far from just a desk-based engineering position and needs someone to be responsible for the whole project life cycle as opposed to having a singular focus you will be involved in the specification, out-sourced design, integration, testing, validation, verification, deployment and through life support of safety critical on-board train protection products which will include but not limited to AWS/TPWS and APC. 

Essentials 

  • Systems Engineering experience in a product/system design environment, with complex products/systems that comprise FPGAs, microprocessors, analogue/digital electronics and ruggedized mechanical packaging. 
  • A good ‘Working Knowledge’ of the main Engineering disciplines (Electronic Design, Software Design, Mechanical Packaging Design, System Design and System Integration) 
  • Highly intelligent with strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Sound understanding of the system design process (including System and Subsystem Specification, System Test, Integration and Certification). 
  • Good verbal and written communications, including ‘Customer Facing’ skills. 
  • HNC in a relevant engineering discipline (Systems, Electronic, Mechanical).

Desirable 

  • Systems Engineering experience related to product/system design of trainbourne equipment. 
  • Worked on Safety Related Projects (SIL2 or higher as defined in standards EN50126/8/9. 
  • First Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Systems, Electronic, Mechanical).
