Requirement for a Senior Fire Safety Engineer to be responsible for the safety of over 1 billion passengers across the entire Eastern region of the UK’s rail network.

Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Senior Fire Safety Engineer to develop and implement a fire safety plan for the largest asset owner within Rail.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be able to make a significant difference to the Fire Strategy of one of the UK’s largest employers, looking after an interesting and varied portfolio of property that includes the likes of Leeds, Liverpool Street, and Kings Cross Stations.

They will have the opportunity to work with a high level of autonomy, although well supported by the 2 Building Route teams, leading the way regarding all matters fire related. These teams are growing rapidly, and there is a good chance that down the line, their in house Fire Engineering capability will grow along with it, offering excellent future progression prospects.

This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced Fire Safety Engineer, looking for an exciting step up in responsibility, at one of ‘The Times’ UK ‘Top 50’ rated employers.

Location:

York (Hybrid working model – 3 days a week from office or site)

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and produce policy, for fire risk control arrangements (including standards, procedures and codes of practice) and fire safety training requirements for the wider business to comply to.
  • Oversee and monitor the effectiveness of fire safety across the organisation including undertaking fire safety inspection and risk assessment of the property portfolio and Network Rail controlled infrastructure so that fire risk findings are recorded, and suitable mitigation measures are put in place to reduce the risk of fire for Network Rail
  • Identify and develop appropriate engineering controls for reducing the risk of fires across Network Rails property portfolio and controlled infrastructure. Provide design advice and technical review for proposed alterations to the property portfolio and Network Rail controlled infrastructure including interpretation of appropriate codes and standards to improve compliance with policy and standards.
  • Review fire safety aspects of the Railways and other Guided Transport Systems Regulations (ROGS) applications of train operating companies (TOCs).
  • Provide effective fire safety advice and support to Network Rail line management to improve compliance with policy and standards set by the Head of Fire Safety and including changes in legislation.

The Candidate

Successful candidates will be responsible for working with key internal and external stakeholders to develop a strategy to ensure that all Network Rail owned property is compliant. They will be heavily involved in conducting and monitoring FRA’s (Fire Risk Assessments), as well as Fire Safety Design review. 

Essentials

  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in fire engineering such as Level 5 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design.
  • Significant experience in fire safety at a management level

Desirable

  • Chartered Fire Engineer or willing to work towards
