Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Project Planner for one of the biggest Freight Operating Companies in the UK.
The Opportunity
Ford & Stanley Recruitment are working with one of the leading Freight Operating Companies in the UK on their search for an experience Project Planner. This candidate will be responsible for managing the ERTMS Project which is currently transitioning from the ‘detail planning’ phase to the delivery phase, with initial fitment planned for the middle of 2023.
This role will suit an assertive and proactive candidate, capable of effective planning as well as challenging others around them and identifying issues ahead of time in order to create a functional resolution before a problem arises.
With the role currently being done on a part-time basis, the initial challenge of this role will be to understand the project in its current state, cleaning it up and overhauling it as necessary and then working to optimise it as much as possible.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Manage the Project Plan to demonstrate dependencies
- Plan, coordinate and monitor activities of assigned projects to develop and implement procedures, processes and systems
- Work with the project team to allocate project and delivery resources
The Candidate
The successful candidate for this role will be self-motivated and assertive, capable of working off their own initiative to find improvements for the project as well as holding others accountable and challenging aspects of the project when required.
While being assertive is going to be important for this role, being able to work with internal stakeholders is equally critical as this project affects the entire company and you will need to be able to work with every department to achieve the best results.
Essentials
- Previous experience in a planning role/capacity. Candidates must have experience with complex projects, rather than just expensive projects, due to the amount of affected parties/departments and the moving parts involved.,
- Experience working with Primavera software.
Desirable
- Knowledge within, or experience working in, rail is desirable but not essential
