Ford & Stanley – Specialists in Digital Recruitment are recruiting a Principal Systems Engineer for a world-leading and market driven, growing rail software developer.

The Opportunity

As Principal Systems Engineer you will be the technical/project lead and be responsible for the technical ownership for product development and system engineering activities using your systems engineering disciplines to design, implement and deliver high-quality systems solutions to the Engineering Department.

Working closely with the Systems Engineering Manager, you will take up line management experience of 5 Systems Engineers and act as the subject matter expert from a technical viewpoint. Your duties will be wide ranging but ultimately you will be performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analysis for total systems.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analysis for total systems. Analysis will be required at all levels of the total system product to include concept, design, build, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Undertaking the role of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) where technical assessment has determined the post holder ‘competent’ in line with the ‘Engineering Management for Projects’
  • Running a range of System Engineering meetings.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be qualified to degree level and will have experience of leading a team of Systems Engineers. In addition, you should be passionate about delivering improvements to new and existing safety critical projects that impact the entirety of the UK Rail Network. A number of active projects are being worked on in conjunction with Network Rail so the impact of this work will be felt throughout the UK.

Essentials

  • Experience as the technical lead in a rail system engineering environment.
  • Have a great understanding of complex system integration.
  • Understanding of how the architecture works from both a software and hardware perspective.
  • Degree in Systems Engineering or a related field such as Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Desirable

  • Delivered systems engineering products into Network Rail
  • Knowledgeable surrounding Network Rail standards and procedures
  • Chartered Engineer status
