Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Design Engineer for a specialist in Rail Infrastructure design and manufacture.


The Opportunity

Ford & Stanley Recruitment are partnered with one of the largest manufacturers of rail infrastructure products in the UK on their search for a Design Engineer.

Joining an historic business, recently celebrating 125 years of manufacturing at their Sandiacre site, this opportunity represents stability and career development. Working with an Head of Engineering who sits on the interview panel for chartership applicants, this is an opportunity to work with and learn from designers who have been with the business their entire career.


The Candidate

Being educated to at least undergraduate degree, although ideally master’s degree and on their way to chartership, this candidate will have some experience with, or an understanding of, MRP systems/BOMs/FEA.

This role will involve “big, dirty engineering” and “Victorian” engineering principles, as well as a requirement to work with shop floor staff and deal with customers.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Design, development and safety validation of engineering products for inclusion in rail track systems, ensuring lowest manufacture / installation costs are considered
  • Improvement of existing products, processes and design tools
  • Comparison of alternative design solutions



  • Degree in mechanical engineering
  • Experience working with heavy mechanical engineering



  • Masters Degree in mechanical engineering
  • Chartered status or working towards
  • Experience or an understanding of MRP systems, BOMs, FEA or 3D Design
